Rest of drive to Tonopah, NV

We drove in and out of high and low deserts - interesting topography. On part of the drive we had geology class - Bill read the first half of the geology book on Zion NP. The kids practiced taking notes in their journals, too cute. Mitch got to pee in an empty bottle in the middle of the desert (he was about to bust and we were nowhere near a proper facility). He asked if he got points for adventure peeing. :)

It's 1pm and we've arrived at our destination for tonight, Tonopah, NV. There is an outdoor heated pool, and the kids are very excited. We're too early to check in, so we're going to go find lunch and come back in an hour or so.

Here are some of the sights we saw. Near Tonopah, we could see mountains high enough to be covered with snow - they are huge and very far away (2nd picture below). Sierra Nevadas, I presume. Earlier in the trip, we drove east and north of Las Vegas (taken from the passenger seat while Bill was driving, looks tiny in the picture), and we could see the city skyline from the road.

  1. Love it. Especially the peeing in the bottle part. I think he gets lots of points for that impressive feat.
Thanks for taking us with you on this adventure :).
