Grand Canyon shuttle tour - the rest

We went to several spots on the bus route, including Maricopa Point, Hopi Point, and Powell Point - all with amazing views and interesting stories and facts about the Canyon to learn. For example, I learned that for 13 years during the Cold War, uranium was mined from the Canyon. The damage and radioactive contamination was so severe that it is now a SuperFund site, and the cleanup continues. We also learned about people like Powell who led an exploratory expedition into the Canyon before it became a national park. There is a neat memorial at Powell Point with awesome views.

The wind was a beast - blowing sand in your eyes, making you unsteady on your feet, pelting your face - I've never been in anything like it. Fighting that and the thin air, we were pretty tired afterward. The kids got ice cream and we rested a bit before dinner. It is very nice staying in the park and having a convenient and private place to rest and collect your thoughts. We feel very fortunate to be able to do the trip the way we're doing it. We're going to be broke for a while, but I can already sense that it'll be worth it. :)
