Washington DC trip 2013

We're here! We drove 8 hours yesterday from Maryville to Front Royal, VA. We skirted in and out of the edge of a big storm to the north toward the end of our trip, but we never got the full force of it. Bill found a Holiday Inn & Suites with an indoor pool and a vacancy, so he booked while we drove and it worked out beautifully. We (meaning, the kids) swam last night in the "heated pool" - perhaps heater was broken? They didn't seem to mind it, but the parental units kept to the hot tub. The storm finally socked the area, but we were already tucked in. The kids slept like stones, very sweet.

This morning, Mitch woke up with a patch of eczema herpeticum. This happens every now and again, and the treatment is acyclovir - very easy, but requires a prescription. On the iPad, I found a Walgreens that was on our route in to DC. A quick call to the pediatrician, and we had the first dose of the medicine in him by mid-morning. Love modern communication and technology.

We had good directions from the hotel website, so we drove right to it without any problems, even though there was a fair amount of traffic. And, as good luck would have it, even though we were several hours before the check-in time, our room was ready and we moved right in. The kids scoped out the pool situation while I parked the van, and declared it to be fabulous. We'll indulge at the end of the day. :)

First up was a ride on the Metro to the Smithsonian. Then the Museum of Natural History.

Mitch said, "Look! Look!" We said, "What?!" He said, "the map!", referring to the GPS in Mimi's van. :)
