Kiluea Volcano

Older crater, still warm, people walk across it (4-mile hike in shoes you don't mind getting ruined, we didn't do it):

Fissures and steam vents:

View of Kiluea from USGS Observatory:

The lava cools into thin glass strands that you can see all over the place, and which you can pick up, but they break. The kids enjoyed trying to pick them up. Too tiny to get on film - thinner than hair, rigid and very fragile.
